I thought this one in the Harry bosh sieres was his best ,lots of plot twists, the death of one of the main charicters, the return of harry's brother micky,and a great ending ...as far as len cariou as narrator, I perfer Dick Hill. All and all a good book

After reading some of the other critical reviews my first question is I don't think we listened to the same book and/or the same narrator. This was a story that was impossible to turn off. Connelly spins an unbelievable story line that dovetails together events that keeps your interest peaked.... Carriou, the narrator, is immensely talented in being able to vary emphasis, pitch, tones, and character... I think another grand slam..... and would reccomend to any mystery lover....

I love the Bosch series, but this one really hit a sour note. Even his love of jazz music seemed beyond hollow. The reader is sterile and not compeling. I do not recommend this book tot he faithful.

Like all of the rest of the Harry Bosch books this one also has all of the suspense and mystery. Michael Connelly is an incredible story teller and anything he writes is always worth reading or listening to. As for the comment the other reviewer of this book said about the Narrator, I could not disagree more. Len Cariou has been the voice of Harry Bosch for atleast the last few books and I wouldn't have it any other way, his deep and sometimes raspy voice nail the character in my opinion. Enjoy listening, you won't be able to stop.

HORRIBLE!!! The book reader is HORRIBLE!!! It sounds like he's dying of lung cancer. At some points his voice is gravelly and sounds like a death rattle. At other points his mouth fills up and his words are full of spit. It's REPULSIVE. I love Michael Connelly and Harry Bosch and this reading is a sacrilege. I recently listened to "The Scarecrow" and it was fantastic. This is a disaster. What a total waste of money.

Synopsis
Harry Bosch is in the middle of a major case in Los Angeles when his world is turned upside down with one phone call. His usual Sunday morning call to his daughter, who lives with her mother in Hong Kong, is answered by a stranger. Harry learns through the cryptic conversation that he has stumbled into the middle of a kidnapping. His daughter is being held until her mother, Eleanor Wish, can win enough money in the poker rooms of nearby Macau to buy her back.
Bosch drops everything to go to his daughter's rescue and lands in Hong Kong as the already exotic city is celebrating the Festival of Ghosts. Prayer fires burn all over the city creating a surreal backdrop for a life and death investigation.
Harry is a fish out of water here but cop work is cop work, no matter where you are. He finds his daughter but also finds that things aren't what they seem to be, even with her.
