Heat Wave
My wife and I were excited to see this book in audio. The reader is extremely poor. Gender changes are hard to understand, character changes are hard to define and the tone is monotone at best.

Heat Wave (Unabridged) review by Bob Weiss, 2010-01-29Excellent
Good stuff. I enjoyed the book tremendously. It is the TV show Castle with a more worked out plot, the characters given different names and the character of Beckett/Heat more "filled out". I was not prepared for how good it was because I assumed it was written by a committee but clearly not. Or if so, its a collaboration much better than any I have read before. I noted the comments about the reader, but he was fine for me. Sample it out before buying. You get a good idea of how he sounds and if his reading would work for you or not.

Heat Wave (Unabridged) review by secularhumanbeing, 2010-01-24Best book EVER!!
I love the show Castle so I or course bought this book. I have read it twice already! I am not the biggest reader. I never read... But this book is definitely worth it. The chemestry in the book is a lot like the chemestry between Caslte and Beckett on the show. I absolutely LOVE this book and would definitely recomend it to anyone!

Heat Wave (Unabridged) review by jansipod, 2009-12-23No Charisma Here
Why isn't the man from the television series narrating this? This is the voice I envision and want to hear. He is charismatic and should be the one telling the story.

Being a huge fan of the Castle TV series, I bought this audio book. Although not horrible, I felt let down... I agree with plainly spoken that the reader was wrong for the character, maybe a female reader for the part of Nikki Heat, in as much as she is the main character, might have improved the presintation....

Heat Wave (Unabridged) review by augggie, 2009-11-24Awesome
This has just been so nice to hear this story. this is my first Audiobook to listen to and it is great. I can hear the book while I am not reading it. skip from chapter to chapter. It is so nice and helps pass the time so much quicker. the story is great. It is just what i thought it would be. a great crime novel. I truly enjoy the TV show and anybody who hasn't seen it...you should. it is just like this story. I just can't wait to see what happens next. The chemistry of the two main characters is so great....and you can see it as well on Castle. Hope you enjoy as much as I have.

Heat Wave (Unabridged) review by Engsta, 2009-11-15Heat Wave by Richard Castle
The book is entertaining, pure satire, however the pseudo-author's voice is a bit whiny for my taste. It seems they were trying to find a close match to the voice of the actor who plays Castle in the series. A swing and a miss. Newsflash to audio publisher's: The voice of the reader can make or break these novels. If you want an example of an excellent match, listen to Will Patton read any number of James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels. He becomes Dave Robicheaux, telling the listener his story, rather than just another guy reading an audiobook for money.

Heat Wave (Unabridged) review by plainly spoken, 2009-11-05Fun Book!!
Exactly as I expected. You can imagine the characters from the show saying and doing everything that is stated. Fun book, if your looking for something to take your mind off of things in the real world this is a great book to do that.

Heat Wave (Nikki Heat) review by tiger, 2010-08-31And the heat goes on
"Heat Wave" is a fun, easy-to-read book that's just like an episode of the TV series "Castle," only the characters' names have been changed. The murder/mystery part of the plot was predictable, but the relationships between the characters and the witty dialog really kept the story moving. The story did have a couple of problems, however. First, the "real" Richard Castle would never have written about Nikki Heat's flashback to the night her mother was murdered. Castle rarely seems to take things seriously, but underneath he's a pretty sensitive guy, and he would have respected Kate's privacy about that painful subject. I also don't think he would have repeatedly referred to Nikki's blushes or fluttering heart because Kate would have taken him down verbally, if not physically. Second (and this is a MAJOR complaint) the type size in the paperback is ridiculously small and the print extends so far toward the binding that it's practically impossible to read the book. Still, I persevered, and really enjoyed "Heat Wave."

Heat Wave (Nikki Heat) review by M McCall, 2010-08-30Impossible to Read
First off, I am a dedicated Richard Castle fan who can't wait for Wednesday to get my weekly Castle fix. So when I found a Richard Castle book, I couldn't wait to read it. But It's impossible to read. I can't believe any publisher would use print that small (6 or 7 pt. type?) and expect serious sales. As much as I like Castle, I had to give up reading it.

Heat Wave (Nikki Heat) review by Ed Killingsworth, 2010-08-28I'm feelin' the Heat...
Nikki Heat, the newest character from acclaimed writer Richard Castle, is a tough New York detective saddled with an annoying magazine writer by the name of Jameson Rook. Pulitzer Prize-winning Rook is writing an article about New York's finest and through his friendship with the mayor managed to pull enough strings to get permission to follow the exploits of Heat and her team of top detectives as they work the case of a real estate tycoon who took a header off his balconey. Amidst a record-breaking heat wave in the city, Heat must navigate the seemingly unconnected crimes of an assault on the tycoon's trophy wife, the theft of a multi-million-dollar art collection, and a second murder, all the while sifting through the many suspects who had something to gain from each crime. Not to mention the spark of attraction she feels towards Rook, despite, or perhaps because of, his charmingly irritating ways. Which will combust first, the city or Heat and Rook's chemistry?
Okay, so substitute all the character names from the t.v. show Castle for the characters in this book and you have an episode of the show, pretty much. As I was reading, I could see Nathan Fillion as Rick Castle as Jameson Rook interacting with Stana Katic as Kate Beckett as Nikki Heat. Is that a bad thing? Well, if you enjoy Castle as much as I do, then no, it's not a bad thing. What we have with Heat Wave is an inoffensive police procedural mystery with a marginal amount of blood and violence (just enough to get the job done), only a little bit of sex (but nothing graphic--what a shock), and no cursing (which is an even bigger shock), which makes for a nice change. Is it realistic? No. Is it fun and fluffy book, enjoyable and easy to read? Yes. Am I looking forward to the next Nikki Heat novel by "Richard Castle"? Hell yes.Rating: 4
Heat Wave (Nikki Heat) review by Laura Probst, 2010-08-25I love Castle...
This book is a lot of fun, especially if you are a fan of the series. Of course we know it's a marketing ploy for the series, but who cares? Knowing the actors gives you a reference for what happens in the book. I think anyone who appreciates the humor and the by-play on the show would also like this.

Castle Book
Heat Wave was great. I enjoy the TV show Castle and the book counterpart was excellent. It is a great read even if you are not a fan of the show. I was disappointed at first because I thought it was just a written version of one of the episodes since the death scene matched one of the early episodes. This turned out to not be the case. The book was inspired by the episode. Just like it is stated in the TV show. Parts of the book are small rewards for watching the show, you get tidbits throughout the seasons. But if you have never seen the show, the story is still good.

A book with some potential, yet...
The idea itself, the very plot seems interesting enough, however the main problem with this book is that it is written more likely as a script than as a book. Some sequences would be great on a screen but in a book they seem slow and kind of useless. The characters are predictable and unlike in the show something is missing. Good read for a beach and for those with quick reading skills with good imagination.

Heat Wave review by Nitric X, 2010-08-17The Heat is On!
As NYC finds itself gripped in an uncomfortable heatwave and rolling blackouts, Detective Beckett and Richard Casle... Oops, I mean Detective Nikki Heat and Jameson Rooke must uncover the mysterious circumstances surrounding a local real-estate tycoon's death. While the book starts off slowly, it picks up pace and closely resembles the kind of murder mystery seen on ABC's popular television program: Castle. This is an entertaining "MUST READ" for fans, treating the to plenty of situations and "backstory" to the television program.
